Generation and Detection of Gravitational Radiation
نویسنده
چکیده
Submitted for the IT05 Meeting of USB Dept. of Physics and Astronomy Sorting Category: 2.2 (E) Generation and Detection of Gravitational Radiation CHRIS KAISER, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Stony Brook University — This talk is divided into two main sections. First, an overview of the theoretical concept of gravitational radiation is given, starting from geometric considerations in Euclidean 3D space over Special Relativity’s 4D space-time to elastic 4D space-time in General Relativity. Einstein’s equations are presented in their linearized form and their solution leads to Gravitational Waves. In the second part, after a brief discussion of sources for this kind of radiation the most commonly used detector types are introduced. The main difficulties encountered in building and using such detectors are addressed. This especially includes their anticipated sensitivity and associated expected detection rates for events that cause gravitational waves. Electricity demand is forecasted to double in 2035, and it is vital to address the economicsof electrical energy generation for planning purposes. This study aims to examine the applicability ofGravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) and the newly improved GSA (IGSA) for optimization of themixed-integer non-linear electricity generation expansion planning (GEP) problem. The performanceindex of GEP...
متن کاملGravitational radiation detection with laser interferometry
Gravitational-wave detection has been pursued relentlessly for over 40 years. With the imminent operation of a new generation of laser interferometers, it is expected that detections will become a common occurrence. The research into more ambitious detectors promises to allow the field to move beyond detection and into the realm of precision science using gravitational radiation. In this articl...

The paper gives an introduction to the gravitational radiation theory of isolated sources and to the propagation properties of light rays in radiative gravitational fields. It presents a theoretical study of the generation, propagation, back–reaction, and detection of gravitational waves from astrophysical sources. After reviewing the various quadrupole–moment laws for gravitational radiation i...
متن کاملThe Interface between Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity
The generation, as well as the detection, of gravitational radiation by means of charged superfluids is considered. One example of such a “charged superfluid” consists of a pair of Planck-mass-scale, ultracold “Millikan oil drops,” each with a single electron on its surface, in which the oil of the drop is replaced by superfluid helium. When levitated in a magnetic trap, and subjected to microw...

Wind Power generation integrated in electrical power system can cause of variation and uncertainty which must be considered in process of generation expansion planning (GEP). The goal of this study is to model the GEP problem integrated with wind power generation and introduce the fuzzy-probability model to consider variation and uncertainty of wind power generation. To verify and optimize the ...
